Thimerosal & Developmental Neurotoxicology

Remarkable controversy exists on the safety and efficacy of vaccinations in the United States.  Research supporting vaccine safety is scant yet crucial to the well being of every American citizen.  Since 1980 the amount of vaccinations required for children began to rise quite dramatically.  These vaccines contain various toxicants including thimerosal, a mercury (Hg) containing neurotoxicant, which may contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders such as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), autism, attention deficit hyperactivity

How did you develop MCS?

This is a question that I believe will forever boggle my mind.  I often wonder if I was genetically vulnerable to developing MCS especially since my youngest child is also afflicted.  Or maybe my exposures before and during my pregnancy not only contributed to my ill health but to that also of my child.  As I examine the health histories of the members of the paternal side of my family, I find many have fallen to cancer and other neurological diseases.

Secondary Education Funding:  The Buck Stops Here

For many with chemical sensitivities financial considerations play a major role in educational considerations.  Many have lost their source of income and are unsure of what employment they will be able to obtain in the future.  Although attending college may seem like another insurmountable financial challenge it can also be a key to future financial security.

The Gift of Friendship

In this life time we are told we are fortunate if we have as many true friends as we can count on one hand.  A person with MCS is lucky if they have one.

Well… lucky me, I have one.   Her name is Zoe.  I met Zoe through work.  At first we said hi in the hall ways, then we began to share about our passion which is art.  She is a potter deep in her heart.  I am a painter.   We decided to take a clay class at a nearby University.  A few classes under our belts and I knew I wouldn't be able to

Relationships

We need other people very much and yet the same forces that draw us toward others also separate us from them.  Often the people who love and support us are drawn into the web that isolates us from the rest of the world.  The essential person - what is inside us, is not that different from those around us, yet we are separated from them by layers of frustrating complications.

All I Want for Christmas

the time is near, Christmas is almost here
it won't be long 'til we hear the caroler's song
and share the pies and goodies all baking
the smiles, laughter, and joy for the taking

‘Tis the Season

We all know that feeling- almost indescribable.  An emotion of contentment, an inner peace within us, a tingling feeling that the world is okay and that mankind is just that…. kind.  A time when even the scrooges of the world can let their hearts be gentled.  It is the Spirit of Christmas.

It envelopes us all despite our religious beliefs.  The bright and colorful lights seem to warm one’s soul in the midst of a winter night.  The astounding décor that widens the eyes of a child and makes the old reminisce of days gone by announces that the season has arrived. The heartfelt thanks of those in need that are supported by those

Indigo Canary

First grade started off on a fast note for both my son and I.  I learned how to juggle getting the oldest two off to school on their own and then timing our proper arrival to the school with my youngest in order to miss the diesel exhaust of the buses and fragrant parents.  This was not easy to accomplish due to the fact that my own health was challenged with FM/CFS and MCS.  My son would settle into the classroom, close to the air cleaner, as I would update his teacher on his condition for that day.  After that I would head to the nurse’s office to check in with her.  The first few days I did feel comfortable leaving him at the school.    I was led to believe that he was in an informed environment.

Sal’s Place

I was recently sent a document in which a pastor claims he can cure MCS because it is a simple emotional fear reaction.  Now I don’t doubt that spirituality can help a person cope with the very real fear that the presentation of toxicants produces when one goes into “flight or fight” - a natural reaction that motivates us to protect ourselves.  But this pastor whom I will not name has mixed up the simple difference between a real fear and a phobia which is a perceived threat that is unrealistic.  He further has claimed that the “flight or fight” fear reactions are the MCS symptoms that MCSers suffer from.

Inside MCS America

This month MCS America has created several signs that may be used to generate awareness for MCS. The focus is not on “US” but on “THEM” which will of course benefit us as well.  The slogans we have chosen represent asking others to examine their own chances of getting MCS along with their families chances.   By doing this it becomes personal to them and we hope that the message will be conveyed better than when we ask for accommodations.

MCS Is Like Baking A Cake

MCS is like baking a cake without the recipe and never have made a cake before.  You are making it from scratch.  Most of the cakes fail since you have no idea of what you are doing.  Then one day you get it just perfect.  That is how my MCS world is.

Mind Over Matter

Response to It’s All in Your Head article (MCSA News, October 2006)

If I stick my hand in a flame, it would be a strange solution to be told to use my mind, to think my way out of a severe burn.  I don't understand healers who prescribe the same for treatment of MCS.  If I'm a loving person, would that make me burn less?  If I'm spiritually connected, would I avoid pain and burning?  Or would my delusions just create more harm?
