MCS America Mission Statement

The mission of MCS America (MCSA) is:

· To gain medical, legal, and social recognition for multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) as a disorder of organic biological origin induced by toxic environmental insults.

· To provide support and referral services to the individuals with multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia (FM), and other environmental illnesses.

· To ensure that environmental toxicants are identified, reduced, regulated, and enforced through lobbying for effective legislation.

MCSA will actively seek opportunities to engage in lobbying, advocacy, and activism in support of MCS and the mission of MCS America.

MCSA will activity seek annual proclamations from governors and mayors around the country to declare each May as MCS Awareness and Education Month.

MCSA will actively seek to obtain and publicly report on accurate and objective scientific information about the organic, biological origin of MCS that is free from conflicts of interests, including ties to the chemical industry, and connections to the pharmaceutical industry.  MCSA will disseminate these objective scientific findings as quickly and widely as possible.  In addition, MCSA will actively and publicly debunk studies which do not meet these criteria.

MCSA will promote mutual respect between fellow human beings.  All members are encouraged to engage in collaborative efforts, which are aimed at the mission of MCSA, with other groups and individuals who are attempting to obtain the same end result. When mutual agreement cannot be reached, MCSA shall disengage.  MCSA shall seek full engagement in collaborative efforts with the same parties in the future on topics for which goals coincide.

Once MCS is recognized, MCSA will actively seek funding sources and grant monies in order to assist in additional investigations into the etiology, treatment, and prevention of this costly, devastating, and disabling disorder as well as to provide services (housing/financial assistance, case management) to clients in a physical location with a 24 hour hotline.

Once MCS is recognized, MCSA will also work to obtain specific guidelines for appropriate ADA accommodations in the following settings:

· Schools

· Workplace

· Medical Community

· Public Access Areas Across America

The strategic plan was unanimously adopted on October 12, 2007.
