MCS America Mission Statement

The mission of MCS America (MCSA) is:

· To gain medical, legal, and social recognition for multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) as a disorder of organic biological origin induced by toxic environmental insults.

· To provide support and referral services to the individuals with multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia (FM), and other environmental illnesses.

· To ensure that environmental toxicants are identified, reduced, regulated, and enforced through lobbying for effective legislation.

MCSA will actively seek opportunities to engage in lobbying, advocacy, and activism in support of our mission.

MCSA will actively seek annual proclamations from governors and mayors around the country to declare Awareness and Education Months.

MCSA will actively seek to obtain and publicly report on accurate and objective scientific information about multi-system illness etiology that is free from conflicts of interests, including ties to industry.  MCSA will disseminate these objective scientific findings as quickly and widely as possible.  In addition, MCSA will actively debunk studies which do not meet these criteria.

MCSA will promote mutual respect between fellow human beings.  All are encouraged to engage in collaborative efforts, which are aimed at the mission, with other groups and individuals who are attempting to obtain the same end result. When mutual agreement cannot be reached, MCSA shall disengage.  MCSA shall seek full engagement in collaborative efforts with the same parties in the future on topics for which goals coincide.

MCSA will assist in additional investigations into the etiology, treatment, and prevention of these costly, devastating, and disabling illnesses, as well as to seek out organizations to refer who provide services (housing/financial assistance, case management) to clients in a physical location with a 24 hour hotline.

MCSA will also work to obtain specific guidelines for appropriate ADA accommodations in the following settings:

· Schools

· Workplace

· Medical Community

· Public Access Areas Across America

This strategic plan was adopted on October 12, 2007 and revised on March 7, 2008.
